Private: Stage 4 Integrated Sports & PE
May 27, 2009May 27, 2009
Hi guys
We have just created this blog in order to get your feedback on the integration of sports and PE in stage 4 at CCCHS. Some of our older staff would be aware that we evaluated the Stage 4 CLEs at the end of last year, and as a result we have seen a lot of changes to the delivery of PE and Sport.
In line with our learning and teaching principles, we decided to try and integrate PE across CLEs and sport in order to demonstrate to students the links between sports, enable students to develop the knowledge and skills required to play a variety of team sports and to help students transfer these skills more effectively across different sports.
This has ultimately meant that students participate in four sports every five weeks and these sports are taught and practiced in PE as part of their CLE Learning. Students will participate in one of the four sports each week and will learn the 4 sports in their CLE learning. For example over the next 5 weeks students will be participating in net/court games and will cover skills for tennis, paddle tennis, la crosse and volleyball. All of these sports have a strong focus on hand eye coordination and we aim to teach the skills through a “game sense approach”. This approach involves students developing skills by playing small modified games, rather than the traditional “skill practice”.
We are keen to get your feedback, and would appreciate it if you could comment on the following:
1) How is this integrated delivery and organisation of sport and PE going for you as a Learning Advisor?
2) How do you think this form of delivery is going for our students?
3) Do you have any ideas on how we can assist you in teaching sport and PE?
4) Are we effective in getting “maximum participation” and movement from students?
5) Do you have any ideas on how we can realistically improve sport and PE at CCCHS?
